MY STORY
Why I Built Womanhood Hospital
I am an obstetrician, gynaecologist, and fertility specialist with over 16 years of experience. But this hospital was not built from a business plan. It was built from something I kept seeing — and could not stop thinking about.

“Women were coming to me having sat on their symptoms for months — sometimes years. Not because they didn’t know something was wrong. But because they were embarrassed. Or scared. Or simply had no space where they felt safe enough to say it out loud.”
Again and again, I saw the same pattern. A woman living with painful periods for a decade, convinced it was normal. A young woman too embarrassed to ask about contraception. A couple quietly carrying the weight of infertility, having told nobody — because the shame felt too heavy to carry.
What struck me most was not the medical gap. It was the privacy gap. Women felt that their bodies — their most personal concerns — had no truly safe place to go. That the moment they walked into a clinic, they risked being judged, rushed, or dismissed.
In 2023, I made a decision. I became the first gynaecologist to set up practice in Shela — because the women of this community deserved specialist women’s healthcare right where they lived, not an hour away in traffic. What began as Womanhood Clinic grew steadily over three years, built entirely on trust, on word of mouth, and on the simple promise that every woman who walked through the door would be heard without judgement.
On 1st June 2026, that promise grew into something more — Womanhood Hospital. Shela’s first dedicated women’s hospital. A full clinical facility where women can access everything from routine check-ups to advanced laparoscopic surgery and fertility care, without leaving their community. The same values that built the clinic now anchor the hospital: privacy, dignity, and care that never rushes past the person to get to the patient.
